hi, im jeina!

i'm a self-taught developer and designer. i started coding at 12, making roblox games and writing lua scripts out of pure curiosity. what started as something to do in my free time eventually led me to graphic design, ui, web design, and all the other things i somehow decided i wanted to learn. these days, i'm occasionally remembering that life exists outside of a screen (touching grass included). if you'd like to see some of the things i've made, check out /art.

Commemorating Memories, Tracing and Holding It Bare-Faced is a mixed-media installation created by Zad Frixtan Soriao from an original concept by Jeina H. The work brings together photographs taken in the Philippines and places them on banana leaves, connecting personal memories with a material deeply rooted in Filipino life.

Commemorating Memories, Tracing and Holding It Bare-Faced
Photographs on banana leaves

Banana leaves represent being Filipino in many ways. They appear in food, celebrations, family gatherings, and traditions passed down through generations. During a boodle fight, food is spread across banana leaves and shared by everyone. It is a simple experience that carries a strong feeling of togetherness, generosity, and home.

The installation also connects with Gina Apostol’s novel La Tercera, which pieces together Philippine history through family, place, language, and memory. Like the novel, the installation does not try to tell one complete story of the Philippines. Its scattered photographs are small pieces of different moments, brought together by a shared connection to home.

Commemorating Memories, Tracing and Holding It Bare-Faced turns a familiar part of Filipino life into a place where memories can be held. It looks back at the moments that made us feel at home and asks how we continue carrying them, even as they change over time.
